14 new coronavirus cases confirmed in Soite’s area
14 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Soite’s area. The cases are part of the same extensive chain of infections we have informed about during the last few days and which started at a first of May brunch. About 400 people are in quarantine.
One patient is currently being treated for COVID-19 at the Central Ostrobothnia Central Hospital.
In Kannus, junior high school students at the Juhani Vuorinen school have been transferred to distance education for next week due to coronavirus infections and exposures in several different classes. The school will inform the students and parents about the situation and how teaching will be organized in greater detail through Wilma.
As previously informed, some of the coronavirus infections in the chain of infection have been confirmed to be of the Indian variant. The same coronavirus guidelines for infection prevention also apply regarding virus mutations:
- reduce the number of close contact to a minimum - i.e. avoid all unnecessary social gatherings!
- be sure to use a face mask carefully
- keep a safety distance of 2 meters to other people
- maintain good hand hygiene
- follow the regional regulations and recommendations

The list of all possible places of exposure can be found at Soite’s coronavirus website: https://korona.soite.fi/en/corona-virus-info/
Please observe that even if you have visited a potential exposure site, you do not need to contact Soite by phone if you do not have any symptoms. It is enough if you follow the coronavirus recommendations i.e. keep the number of close contacts to a minimum, avoid unnecessary social gatherings and be mindful of proper use of face masks, maintain a safety distance of 2 meters and exercise good hand hygiene. Seek out coronavirus testing early and even if you have only very mild symptoms.
If you have been in contact with someone who has been exposed to corona but not with a confirmed case of corona, you can observe your condition at home and follow the corona virus recommendations. If you have been exposed to coronavirus, Soite will call you.
We urge everyone to seek out coronavirus testing early and even if they have only very mild symptoms.

We are pleased with how active the residents in the area have been in going to coronavirus testing. However, we would like to remind everyone that you cannot come to the drive-in testing site without booking and appointment beforehand. We also ask you to please observe that an appointment must be booked, online or by phone, for everyone who comes to a testing site. For example, the whole family cannot come to the coronavirus testing site if you have only booked an appointment in one person’s name. In order for the testing process to work smoothly, the personnel at the testing site needs to know beforehand who comes for a test. The personnel then has the personal information and the laboratory referrals ready before the testing.
Soite calls anyone who gets a positive test result and a negative test result can be checked via your My Kanta Pages or you will receive a text message if you have given permission for this.
The answer to many of the corona-related questions that you are worried about can be found here on Soite’s corona website.
