Message about Soite’s coronavirus situational picture on the 4th of April 2022 — the infections confirmed during March were mainly caused by the omicron sub-variant BA.2
The coronavirus situation has eased somewhat in the Soite area, although the number of infections and the need for hospitalization remain on a high level. During last week (week 13), a total of 805 new coronavirus infections were confirmed in Soite’s tests. Last week, 1,569 coronavirus tests were taken. The share of positive tests was 51 %. This does not include infections confirmed through home tests, so the actual number is even higher.
Some of the tests taken in Soite are sent for a more detailed analysis, sequencing, in order to determine the virus variant. Analyses have shown that the coronavirus wave that occurred in Soite’s area in March was caused mainly by the omicron sub-variant BA.2. The symptoms are the same in both sub-variants, but sub-variant BA.2 is more infectious than the previous omicron virus and this partly explains the high number of infections.
