Current Coronavirus Information in Soite’s Area on 20.12.2021 — the Interval for Third Vaccinations is Shortened for Persons Who Belong to a Risk Group and Persons over the Age of 60

The Current Situation of Infection

The number of coronavirus cases is on the rise in Soite’s area. During last week (week 50), 103 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Soite’s area. Last week, about 1 622 coronavirus tests were taken. The share of positive test results was 6.5%. Most of the infections were confirmed in unvaccinated persons or persons whose vaccination series is incomplete. Only about 40% of the infections were confirmed in persons who were already in quarantine. 85% of the infections could be traced.

At the moment, seven COVID-19 patients are cared for at the Central Ostrobothnian Central Hospital. Two of the patients are in intensive care.

The most important thing is to follow the hygiene recommendations connected to the coronavirus and to get vaccinated if one has not yet been vaccinated at all or if one has not yet received booster doses. The regional coronavirus recommendations are listed on Soite’s coronavirus website:

Especially those who are still unvaccinated should seek out coronavirus testing without delay even if they only have very mild symptoms indicative of the coronavirus. The coronavirus test result should be awaited at home and in quarantine so as not to potentially expose others to the coronavirus, for example in the workplace.

Coronavirus vaccinations are progressing within Soite’s area. The vaccinations of the citizens are progressing with regards to all persons over the age of 12 who live in Soite’s area. Citizens are now particularly active in taking third vaccine doses.

Soite’s corona vaccination indicator has now been updated! In all, 89.1% of the citizens in Central Ostrobothnia health care district over the age of 12 have now received their first vaccine dose. Last week, 66% of those who received their first vaccine dose were under the age of 30. 84.7% of all persons over the age of 12 have received their second vaccine dose and last week, 70% of the second doses were given to persons under the age of 45. Vaccinations with a third dose have begun actively and 25.8% of all persons over the age of 12 in the area have received their third vaccine dose. Of persons over the age of 60 in the area, 60% have already received their third vaccine dose.

As per recommendation from the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare THL, Soite shortens the interval between the second and the third dose. Persons who belong to a medical risk group and persons over the age of 60 may receive their third coronavirus vaccine dose when at least three months have passed since their second dose. Third vaccine doses will be administered with the shorter vaccination interval for the above-mentioned groups starting on Tuesday 21st of December. This may lead to congestion at the vaccination sites, especially before noon. We recommend making use of the vaccination days in their entirety in order to avoid congestion.

In addition to this, Soite begins vaccinating 5–11-year-old children who belong to a risk group before the year is over. We will inform about this in more detail in the near future.

Vaccinations are mainly given on walk-in vaccination days without appointment booking, which means you can come to a coronavirus vaccination when it suits you best. First, second and third doses are administered during the walk-in-days.At a walk-in vaccination, it is possible to arrange for the second dose to be given earlier than planned, if at least six weeks have passed since the first vaccination.

Vaccination days without appointment booking are organized this week as follows:

  • 20th - 21st of December 9 am to 7.30 pm the vaccination central in Perhonjokilaakso, Passeli (Kirkkotanhua 1, Veteli). Vaccine: Pfizer.
  • 20th of December 3 pm - 7 pm Teerijärvi health station (Hörbyntie 8). Vaccine: Pfizer.
  • 20th - 22nd of December 9 am - 3.30 pm the vaccination central in Kokkola (Kaarlelankatu 7). Vaccine: Pfizer.

Additional information and the timetable for the walk-in days can be found on Soite’s coronavirus website:

An appointment for a coronavirus vaccination may still be booked online on or by phone on the number 06 828 7488. Phone hours Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm and Friday 9 am to 2 pm. You can also book an appointment via your health care centre.

As the Christmas season approaches, more people will be visiting their relatives and friends, and thus it is important to ensure that your vaccine protection is in order. The third vaccine dose is important especially for persons aged 60 and older and for persons who belong to a medical risk group. We encourage those who belong to these groups to get a third vaccine dose as soon as possible 5 to 6 months after the second dose. We also encourage you to get the second vaccine dose as soon as possible if you have not yet received it.

Naturally, first doses of the vaccine are also still being distributed and we encourage you to seek out coronavirus vaccination if you are completely unvaccinated. The coronavirus is not going away and it is very difficult to avoid the illness in the future. It is significantly safer to encounter the coronavirus if you are vaccinated.

Coronavirus certificate and coronavirus passport

Soite’s receptions are congested due to inquiries about coronavirus vaccination certificates. We ask our clients to please print out their coronavirus vaccination certificates themselves from the My Kanta Pages. You can also take a screenshot of the coronavirus vaccination passport and save the image on your phone. This way you have access to the passport and can show it even when you do not have internet access.
