Current Coronavirus Information in Soite’s Area on January 24th 2022

The current situation of infection

The number of coronavirus infections remains high in the Soite area. During last week (week 3), a total of 557 new coronavirus infections were confirmed in the Soite area. Last week, circa 2,050 coronavirus tests were taken. The share of positive tests was 27.3 %. One COVID-19 patient is currently being treated at Central Ostrobothnia Central Hospital. The patient is not in intensive care.

The key figures in the situational picture have been updated:

  • Infections during last week: 557 (a week ago 348)
  • In hospital care: 1 coronavirus patient
  • Number of infections in the last 14 days: 905 (a week ago 669)
  • The incidence of infections during the last 14 days/100 000 citizens:  1,169 (a week ago 864)
  • Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 8 coronavirus-related deaths have occurred in the Central Ostrobothnia hospital district
  • The status of the coronavirus epidemic in Central Ostrobothnia: area with community transmission

Due to the significantly increased number of infections, infection tracking will now be concentrated to mapping infections confirmed in the social and health care units and medical care institutions. The duration of isolation for a person who has become ill is 5 days starting from the day they were tested, regardless of vaccination protection. Control tests are not needed. The day the patient is tested is counted as day 0.

Home testing is recommended as the primary method for confirming a coronavirus infection.  Home tests are recommended for anyone who has symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as a fever, a runny nose or a cough. We recommend repeating the home test again after a few days if the symptoms of respiratory infection persist. Additional information about coronavirus home tests can be found on the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare’s website

A person who has tested positive in Soite will receive a text message with instructions for isolation and home treatment. Read the instructions carefully. Persons aged 60 and older will still be contacted by phone if the test result is positive.

Current instructions are found on Soite’s coronavirus website:

Additionally, a new page for Frequently Asked Questions (currently available in Finnish and Swedish) with additional information about among other things isolation and quarantine has been published on Soite’s coronavirus website. (An English translation is on the way.)

In order to minimize the risk of infection, it is important to follow the coronavirus hygiene recommendations i.e. wash your hands, use a protective mask and maintain a safety distance.

It is especially important to take the coronavirus vaccine now that the quickly spreading omicron variant is present in the area, as the vaccine protects you from serious forms of coronavirus disease in particular.  Please take the coronavirus vaccine as soon as possible if you have not yet done so, or if you have not yet taken the booster vaccine doses.

Restrictions within Soite’s area

In accordance with sub-section 1 of section 58 in the Communicable Diseases Act, the Regional State Administrative Agency for Western and Inland Finland has forbidden all public events that are held indoors in the municipalities in the Central Ostrobothnia Hospital District (with the exception of Reisjärvi) with more than 10 participants.

According to the agency’s decision, those who are responsible for the use of customer and public spaces must arrange the use of the spaces in such a way that the risk of coronavirus infections due to close contact between customers, groups and persons who take part in activities may be prevented.

The regulation is in effect from January 23rd 2022 to February 20th 2022. Additional information in the agency’s message (in Finnish).

Current regulations and recommendations regarding the coronavirus epidemic within Soite’s area are listed on Soite’s corona website: https://korona.soite.fi/en/recommendations/

Coronavirus vaccinations are progressing within Soite’s area. Coronavirus vaccinations are given as follows:

Naturally, first doses of the vaccine are also still being distributed and we encourage you to seek out coronavirus vaccination if you are completely unvaccinated. The coronavirus is not going away and it will be very difficult to avoid the disease in the future. It is significantly safer to encounter the coronavirus if you are vaccinated.

Soite’s corona vaccination indicator has been updated! In total, 89.8% of the citizens in the Soite area over the age of 12 have now received their first vaccine dose. 86.5 percent of persons over the age of 12 in the area have received their second vaccination dose. 53.6 percent of persons over the age of 12 in the area have received their third vaccination dose. A majority of those who came to get vaccinated last week (week 3) were between 5 and 11 years old.
