Information on the coronavirus situation in Soite on the 20th of April 2020

Soite’s coronavirus task group has a daily meeting and updates the situation picture. The situation continues to be calm in Soite’s area and the preparations proceed according to plan.

The situation is unchanged: No new coronavirus cases have been confirmed today in Soite’s area. No coronavirus patients are cared for on wards. Overall, 16 coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Soite’s area, and all chains of infection have been traced.

The situation is still very calm on the coronavirus clinic and on the coronavirus helpline. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare THL has widened the test criteria, but this has not yet led to an increased number of calls.

Soite expands coronavirus testing to the infection units in Kannus and Tunkkari as of this week. Tests continue to be done in Kokkola on the coronavirus clinic, in the common emergency clinic and the paediatric emergency clinic. A separate announcement is made about this.

Soite has now a coronavirus testing apparatus of its own. It is primarily used to analyse urgent cases. Soite will then quickly have the information on whether e.g. a patient who has come to the emergency clinic needs to be isolated or if the personnel who cares for him/her needs to use all protective gear. Quick diagnostics will also speed up the work on ward 9, which functions as a coronavirus sorting ward. In addition to its own diagnostics, Soite will continue to send tests to NordLab laboratories for analysis. The results from NordLab come within a day.

The coronavirus task group is worried about the fact that the number of client and patient visits to units has decreased in a worrying degree. Soites health centres, the emergency clinic and social services are open and serve clients. If a client is given an appointment to Soite, a professional person has come to the conclusion, that coming for treatment entails a smaller risk for the patient than leaving the health problem untreated. We want to continue to stress that it is safe to come to Soite and that it is recommended that health problems are treated in time. Otherwise, they may get worse and lead to a need of urgent care in the emergency clinic or in specialised health care.

The list on changes in the opening hours and other changes in Soite was changed as follows:

  • All patients with a cold who need to come to a reception are treated in an infection unit. In Kokkola, these patients are treated on the coronavirus clinic, and patients outside Kokkola are treated in infection units in Kannus and Veteli (Tunkkari). Those who live in Kruunupyy are treated either in Kokkola or in Veteli (Tunkkari).
  • The reception in Lestijärvi is closed for the time being from 21th of April 2020. Those who live in the area are, regardless of health problem or concern, treated in other units in Soite. Contact by phoning 040 804 2000 as before.
  • Materials for outpatient care can be ordered electronically via the portal
