Current Coronavirus Information in Soite’s Area on January 10th 2022

The current situation of infection

The number of coronavirus infections has increased significantly in the Soite area. During last week (week 1), a total of 321 new coronavirus infections were confirmed in the Soite area. Last week, circa 2,200 coronavirus tests were taken. The percentage of positive tests was 14.6 %. One COVID-19 patient is currently being treated at Central Ostrobothnia Central Hospital, but the hospital workload has increased due to other infectious diseases, such as the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Due to a significantly increased number of infections, Soite’s tracking activity has changed and those infected are not contacted by phone, but a text message is sent to those infected. The text message provides short instructions for how to act Patients should act in accordance with the instructions in the message. Infected people should avoid close contact with other people for at least 10 days. Those with mild symptoms do not need to contact Soite’s infection unit after this if they have two asymptomatic days before the end of their isolation.

All home care instructions, instructions for isolation and treatment instructions for those infected can be found on Soite’s coronavirus website: https://korona.soite.fi/en/treating-coronavirus-infection-at-home/

To minimize the risk of infection, it is important to follow the coronavirus hygiene recommendations i.e. wash your hands, use a protective mask and maintain a safety distance.

Soite awaits possible additional instructions from the Ministry for Social Affairs and Health, the Institute for Health and Welfare and the Regional State Administrative Agency, after which the necessary guidelines and recommendations for the area will be specified. Current recommendations regarding the coronavirus epidemic within Soite’s area are listed on Soite’s corona website: https://korona.soite.fi/en/recommendations/

Daily coronavirus statistics regarding new cases registered per home municipality can be found on the Institute for Health and Welfare’s coronavirus map site (in Finnish).

It is especially important to take the coronavirus vaccine now that the quickly spreading omicron variant is present in the area, as the vaccine protects you from serious forms of coronavirus disease in particular. Please take the coronavirus vaccine as soon as possible if you have not yet done so, or if you have not yet taken the booster vaccine doses.

Furthermore, especially those who are unvaccinated should seek out coronavirus testing immediately even if they only have very mild symptoms indicative of coronavirus. The coronavirus test result should be awaited at home and in quarantine so as not to potentially expose others to the coronavirus, for example in the workplace.

The key figures in the situational picture have been updated:

  • Infections during last week: 321 (a week ago 190)
  • In hospital care: 1 coronavirus patient
  • Number of infections in the last 14 days: 511 (a week ago 294)
  • The incidence of infections during the last 14 days/100 000 citizens:  650 (a week ago 380)
  • 14.6 % of coronavirus test results are positive (a week ago 11.4 %)
  • Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 8 coronavirus-related deaths have occurred in the Central Ostrobothnia hospital district
  • The status of the coronavirus epidemic in Central Ostrobothnia: area with community transmission

Vaccinations

Coronavirus vaccinations are progressing within Soite’s area. Coronavirus vaccinations are given as follows:

  • Coronavirus vaccinations are now progressing with regards to all persons over the age of 5 who live in Soite’s area. The second dose can be given when at least six weeks have passed since the first vaccination.
  • A third vaccine dose is given to everyone over the age of 60 and to persons who belong to medical risk groups and who are at least 18 years or older if at least 3 months have passed since they received the second dose.
  • A third vaccine dose is given to everyone under the age of 60 (18 to 59 years old) if at least 4 months have passed since they received the second dose.
  • A third dose is also given to persons aged 12 and older who have a severe immunodeficiency, if at least 2 months have passed since the third vaccination.
  • A fourth dose is given to persons aged 12 and older who have a severe immunodeficiency, if at least 3 months have passed since the third vaccination.
  • In addition, coronavirus vaccinations for children aged 5 to 11 who belong to a medical risk group will be arranged by appointment at Soite’s vaccination centrals in Kokkola and Kannus in January 2022. You can book an appointment via Soite’s online Omahoito service: https://soite.terveytesi.fi/citizenportal/#/login . More vaccination appointments will be opened in the electronic appointment booking system during this week. Furthermore, a vaccination walk-in-afternoon for children aged 5 to 11 will be arranged at Soite’s children’s hospital on Tuesday January 18th from 4 pm to 7 pm.

Currently there is a great number of people who have a right to a third vaccine dose, which may cause congestion at the vaccination sites, especially before noon. We recommend that those who come to get vaccinated spread out their visits throughout the day in order to avoid congestion.

Naturally, first doses of the vaccine are also still being distributed and we encourage you to seek out coronavirus vaccination if you are completely unvaccinated. The coronavirus is not going away and it will be very difficult to avoid the disease in the future. It is significantly safer to encounter the coronavirus if you are vaccinated.

Soite’s corona vaccination indicator has been updated ! In total, 89.5% of the citizens in the Soite area over the age of 12 have now received their first vaccine dose. 85.6 percent of persons over the age of 12 in the area have received their second vaccination dose. 39.9 percent of persons over the age of 12 in the area have received their third vaccination dose. A majority, i.e. 55 percent, of those who came to get vaccinated last week (week 1), were between 40 and 50 years old. Of the vaccinations given, the majority was third doses.

Vaccinations are given mainly during walk-in vaccination days without appointment booking, which means you can come to a coronavirus vaccination when it suits you best. First, second, third and fourth doses will be administered during the walk-in-days.
