Current Coronavirus Information in Soite’s Area on October 18th 2021

The current situation of infection

The coronavirus situation remains serious in the Soite area. During last week (week 41), a total of 75 new coronavirus infections were confirmed in the Soite area. Most of those who were infected were unvaccinated or had only received an incomplete series of vaccinations. Of the infections that were confirmed last week, about half were confirmed in persons who were already in quarantine.

Coronavirus infections are prevalent mainly among young people: particularly among persons younger than 10 years and in the age group 10 to 19 years old. The average age of those infected is currently 23.5 years. Most of the infections have occurred within the family and during different gatherings with acquaintances and relatives.

The epidemic is spreading among children and young people. However, it is more often adults whose immune system is weakened due to age or underlying diseases that need to be hospitalized due to a coronavirus infection. Seven COVID-19 patients are currently being treated at Central Ostrobothnia central hospital.

The efforts to trace coronavirus infections will from now on be focused on long-term exposures. In principle, quarantine will be limited to those living in the same household or other long-term and close contacts who are not fully vaccinated.

The key figures in the situational picture have been updated:

  • Infections during last week: 75 (a week ago 57)
  • In hospital care: 7 coronavirus patients
  • The number of coronavirus cases during the last 14 days: 132 (a week ago 98)
  • The incidence of infections during the last 14 days/100.000 citizens: 171 (a week ago 127)
  • 4.9 % of coronavirus test results are positive (a week ago 4.1 %)
  • The traceability of chains of infections 85 %

The most important thing is to follow the hygiene recommendations and to seek out coronavirus vaccination if you are not yet vaccinated. Current recommendations regarding the coronavirus epidemic within Soite’s area are listed on Soite’s coronavirus website:

Those who are still unvaccinated should seek out coronavirus testing immediately even if they only have very mild symptoms indicative of coronavirus. The coronavirus test result should be awaited at home and in quarantine so as not to potentially expose others to the coronavirus, for example in the workplace.

Coronavirus vaccinations are progressing within Soite’s area. Vaccinations are now progressing with regards to all persons over the age of 12 who live in Soite’s area. A third vaccine dose is available for severely immunocompromised persons over the age of 12 as well as personnel within the social and health care services.

Soite’s coronavirus vaccination indicator has been updated! In total, 86.4% of the citizens in the Central Ostrobothnia health care district over the age of 12 have now received their first vaccine dose. 79.6 percent of persons over the age of 12 have received their second vaccination dose. Of the entire population in the area, 73.8% have received their first dose and 65.7% their second.

Thanks to school vaccinations, the vaccination coverage for persons aged 12 to 15 rose by as much as 6.4% last week and vaccination coverage in that age group is now 70.4% for the first dose.

During this week, Soite will send a text message about coronavirus vaccinations to all residents of the area who have given Soite permission to send a text message reminder to them. The message urges you to get vaccinated as soon as possible if you have not yet been vaccinated.

Why should I take the coronavirus vaccine?

  1. Coronavirus vaccines give effective protection against serious forms of COVID-19.
  2. The vaccines also protect against the long-term effects of COVID-19, the so-called long COVID, which may cause prolonged tiredness, shortness of breath, cough and joint and chest pain.
  3. By taking the vaccine, you can protect not only yourself but also others. The coronavirus vaccination significantly reduces the secretion of the virus and its spreading from one person to another.
  4. The risks associated with the vaccine are significantly smaller than those associated with coronavirus infection. Link: Information about the coronavirus vaccination
  5. With vaccinations, we can return to a more normal life and the need for restrictions is reduced. Everyone who decides to take the vaccine makes a difference.
