Soite still an area with community transmission – firmer restrictions regarding public gatherings in the area

The Central Ostrobothnia regional COVID-19 group of authorities had a meeting on Wednesday 29th of December 2021 in order to assess the situational picture and the regional recommendations. The number of coronavirus infections is high in the area and the Soite area is still classified as an area with community transmission of the coronavirus. Stricter regional restrictions have been issued.

The Soite area is still classified as an area with community transmission of the coronavirus epidemic. The regional incidence is currently 291/100 000 citizens in 14 days. During the past 14 days, a total of 225 coronavirus infections have been confirmed in the area. Last week, about 1,600 coronavirus tests were taken and 7.4% of these were positive. Last week, about one third of infections were confirmed in persons who were not in quarantine. However, 87% of the infections could be traced. Four COVID-19 patients are currently being treated at Central Ostrobothnia central hospital. One of them is in intensive care.

Last week, the majority of infections were detected in children under 10 years of age (25%) and in persons aged 10–19 (19%). Only 12% of cases were diagnosed in people over 60 years of age. In the Soite area, 50% of those over 60 years of age and 80% of those over 80 years of age have taken a third coronavirus vaccine dose, which helps to explain the low rates of infection in those over 60 years of age. The majority of infections occurred within the family.

On December 28th 2021, the Regional State Administrative Agency of Western and Inner Finland issued a decision regarding restrictions on gatherings in the Soite area. Pursuant to section 58 (1) of the Communicable Diseases Act, the Regional State Administrative Agency prohibits all indoor public events and public gatherings attended by more than 20 people in the municipalities of the Central Ostrobothnia Hospital District (excluding Reisjärvi). The decision is in effect from December 31st 2021 to January 30th 2022. Link to the Agency’s message (in Finnish).

In addition, the government has approved a regulation regarding a temporary restriction of the use of the coronavirus passport referred to in section 58 i of the Communicable Diseases Act. The regulation temporarily limits the use of the coronavirus passport so that from December 31st 2021 to January 30th 2022 the coronavirus passport cannot be used as an alternative to regional restrictions at public events and customer premises. Link to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health’s message.

The COVID-19 group of authorities recommends that the number of participants at private gatherings should also be limited to max 20. Furthermore, an extensive recommendation on the use of a face mask as well as a recommendation on remote work in the form of a hybrid model is still in effect.

All the regional regulations and recommendations regarding the coronavirus epidemic are listed on Soite’s coronavirus website: https://korona.soite.fi/en/recommendations/

The group of authorities reminds everyone that one should not move outside the home if one has even just mild symptoms of a respiratory infection. Particularly those who have not been vaccinated or who have received only one dose of the vaccine should seek out coronavirus testing without delay and even if they have only very mild symptoms of a respiratory infection.

We strongly recommend a complete series of vaccinations, as the coronavirus is not going away and it is very difficult to avoid the illness in the future. It is significantly safer to encounter the coronavirus if you are vaccinated, as the vaccines give efficient protection against the serious form of the illness.

The vaccinations with a third dose have come off to a lively start in Soite’s area. Soite has decided that anyone under the age of 60 (18 to 59 years) can receive a third dose of the vaccine if at least 4 months have passed since the second vaccination. The third vaccine dose will be given to the above group with a shortened vaccination interval starting Monday, January 3rd, 2022.

In Soite’s area, vaccinations are now mainly given on walk-in vaccination days without appointment booking, which means you can come to a coronavirus vaccination when it suits you best. The schedule for vaccinations can be found on Soite’s coronavirus website: https://korona.soite.fi/en/the-coronavirus-vaccines/

The Central Ostrobothnia regional COVID-19 group of authorities has its next meeting on Wednesday 29th of December 2021 in order to assess the regional coronavirus situation and recommendations. If the regional coronavirus situation changes, the group of authorities gathers for a meeting if needed. The group of authorities consists of experts from the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare THL, the Regional State Administrative Agency, the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment and Soite.
