Soite’s area enters the com­mu­ni­ty trans­mis­sion phase

Cen­tral Ostrobothnia’s region­al COVID-19 author­i­ty task group gath­ered for an extra meet­ing on Fri­day Octo­ber 8th 2021 to eval­u­ate the region­al sit­u­a­tion as well as the region­al rec­om­men­da­tions. The task group declared that Soite’s area will be reclas­si­fied as being in the com­mu­ni­ty trans­mis­sion phase of the coro­n­avirus epidemic.

The coro­n­avirus sit­u­a­tion in Cen­tral Ostro­both­nia has sig­nif­i­cant­ly wors­ened dur­ing the past week. Over the past 14 days, a total of 80 coro­n­avirus cas­es have been con­firmed in Soite and the inci­dence of infec­tions dur­ing 14 days is cur­rent­ly 103/100,000 cit­i­zens. 3% of the coro­n­avirus tests are pos­i­tive. Eight COVID-19 patients are cur­rent­ly being treat­ed at Cen­tral Ostro­both­nia cen­tral hos­pi­tal. One of the patients is in the inten­sive care unit.

Most of the infec­tions have been con­firmed in young peo­ple and young adults in the area. Infec­tions are most preva­lent in peo­ple aged 10 to 19 years and 20 to 29 years. The major­i­ty of infec­tions were infec­tions that occurred with­in the fam­i­ly and dur­ing hob­by activities.

The task group declared that Soite’s area will be reclas­si­fied as being in the com­mu­ni­ty trans­mis­sion phase of the coro­n­avirus epi­dem­ic. The moti­va­tion for the move to the com­mu­ni­ty trans­mis­sion phase is the large num­ber of coro­n­avirus infec­tions and the rapid increase in the hospital’s workload.

The region­al COVID-19 author­i­ty task group is con­cerned with the sit­u­a­tion in the area, because if the need for hos­pi­tal care for covid patients con­tin­ues to increase, it will require decreased activ­i­ty for exam­ple in Soite’s surg­eries and clinics.

The author­i­ty task group rec­om­mends the res­i­dents of the area to be extra care­ful in mak­ing sure they fol­low the cur­rent rec­om­men­da­tions and regulations.

The region­al COVID-19 author­i­ty work group will hold its next meet­ing on Wednes­day 13th of Octo­ber 2021 to assess the region­al coro­n­avirus sit­u­a­tion and rec­om­men­da­tions. If there are changes in the region­al coro­n­avirus sit­u­a­tion, the author­i­ty task group will con­vene if nec­es­sary. The author­i­ty group con­sists of experts from the Finnish Insti­tute for Health and Wel­fare (THL), the Region­al State Admin­is­tra­tive Agency (AVI), Cen­tre for Eco­nom­ic Devel­op­ment, Trans­port and the Envi­ron­ment (ELY) and Soite.
