The Soite area transfers to the coronavirus community transmission phase – upper secondary educational institutions move to distance education
Central Ostrobothnia’s regional COVID-19 authority task group gathered on Sunday 16th May 2021 for an extra meeting to assess the regional situation. Since the situation meets the key figures for the community transmission phase of the coronavirus epidemic, the Soite region will be reclassified as being in the community transmission phase of the coronavirus epidemic. The authority group recommends that all upper secondary educational institutions in the Soite area switch to distance education next week.
During the last 14 days, a total of 101 coronavirus infections have been confirmed and the incidence rate is currently 130 / 100,000 inhabitants in the Soite area (situation 15th of May 2021). Of the coronavirus samples, about 2.7 percent are positive. One patient with coronavirus infection is currently being treated at Central Ostrobothnia Central Hospital.
The disease situation in the area has deteriorated rapidly and efforts are being made to quickly bring the situation, which has become serious, under control. The key figures for the transmission phase are met in the Soite area and therefore the authority group issued guidelines that the Soite area enters the spread phase of the coronavirus epidemic.
Coronavirus infections are currently mainly concentrated in young people aged 12–25, and therefore the authority task group recommends that all upper secondary schools in the Soite area switch to distance education next week (17–21.5.2021). The coronavirus situation has deteriorated rapidly, especially in Kannus, so students in grades 4–9 in Kannus’ primary schools switch to distance education for next week (17–21.5.2021). Other municipalities may also decide to switch to distance education, so we recommend that you follow information from the municipality daily via Wilma.
In the community transmission phase, the mask recommendation applies to all students over the age of 12, including pupils in primary schools. In the Soite area, an extended mask recommendation has long been in effect and we emphasize its continued importance. Face masks are recommended for everyone older than 12 years, including those who have been vaccinated:
- In public spaces such as shops and other premises outside the home
- When using public transport (including school buses) and during transports of people who belong to a risk group
- At higher educational institutions in the area (vocational schools and gymnasiums) and at colleges and universities
- At junior high schools in the area
- For people older than 12 in the regional primary schools (students in grades 5 and 6)
- People who come to coronavirus testing
- People returning to Finland from risk countries
- Face masks can still be used in other situations as well if it is impossible to maintain safety distances.
The serious coronavirus situation is also reflected in the Soite area’s neighboring municipalities and further infections have been detected, e.g. In Northern Ostrobothnia.
The regional COVID-19 task group will meet next Tuesday, 18th May 2021 to conduct a more comprehensive review of the regional recommendations for the transmission phase.
All regional regulations and recommendations for the coronavirus situation are listed on Soite’s corona website: https://korona.soite.fi/en/recommendations/
We ask everyone to make sure they follow the coronavirus recommendations. It is extremely important to minimize the number of close contacts and be careful to use a face mask, maintain a safety distance of 2 meters and be careful with hand hygiene. Unnecessary social gatherings should be avoided! Follow the hygiene instructions and the regional recommendations to avoid coronavirus infectons.
